Jürgen Werbick

Kneeling Before the Spirit of the Times?

How Christianity Is Changing

The identity of Christianity is currently undergoing a variety of transformation processes. Jürgen Werbick addresses and analyses these changes in the understanding of faith – something that distresses, alienates or inspires many people. He wants to help readers in critically assessing such changes in concrete beliefs and asking how Christianity can be expressed in a new yet authentic Christian way within the present challenges. Based on this approach, Jürgen Werbick argues against a fear of losing faith that is drawn to a traditionalist strategy of clinging to an outdated understanding of it. Instead, he reinforces the confidence that Christianity’s identity will not become obscured or even betrayed in the processes of change. He believes that this identity can emerge anew and have an increased capacity for communication.
