Seven Mysteries

A Franciscan Rosary

The Rosary is not the prayer of the “better” Catholics. It has always been the simple prayer of ordinary people, a quiet contemplation of reality as we encounter it every day: with all the joy, delight and enthusiasm of life, and with all the suffering, pain and abysses that can arise. As a “medicine wheel” or “wheel of life,” the Rosary is deeply rooted in human history and connects eras, cultures and spiritual traditions.

Jan Frerichs illuminates the astonishing depths of this ancient prayer and symbol, revealing how we can attune ourselves to the rhythm of life with it. For the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi’s death, he presents a “Franciscan” Rosary with seven mysteries instead of the usual five.
