We Praise You
Through Lent with the “Canticle of the Sun”
Shortly before his death 800 years ago, St. Francis of Assisi created the “Canticle of the Sun” in which he praises God with all creatures – as well as through them. The Cantico delle creature (“Canticle of the Creatures”) is the first poem written in the common Italian language and has long been considered a classic of world literature. To this day, it inspires millions of people to love the Creation.
For each of the stanzas (such as Brother Sun, Sister Water, Brother Fire, Sister Mother Earth, Sister Death…), Sarah Gaffuri has written spiritual reflections to accompany us for one week at a time. This is possible even if we do not know the “Canticle of the Sun.” For every day of Lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter and beyond,
