Freedom and Trust

Learning for Life from Older Members of Monasteries

Older female and male members of monasteries tell of their difficult decisions, crises and moments of happiness and their personal path to inner freedom. Their experiences hint at answers to life’s major questions. As a sociologist and Protestant pastor, Ruth Mächler reports and reflects on her conversations with older padres, friars and nuns. What does freedom mean? How do you make good decisions? What is worth giving everything for? What sustains you in old age when health and strength are dwindling? This book about the lives that have been lived can provide more wisdom than any theories.

  • Wisdom for a successful life
  • Older padres, friars and sisters tell their stories
  • Personal, authentic and touching
