In the Silence I Hear Your Steps

Encounters with God on the Path

This book describes encounters with God in a person's everyday life. These are encounters where we only see who we were dealing with in retrospect. Helmut Schlegel tells of situations and occasions where great things happen in a small space. How he realised the meaning of becoming a human being while looking at photos that he had coincidentally come across. Or how a word in a foreign language was the bridge between cultures and religions for him. He tells of experiences in which the Bible and biography meet, which open up the horizon and let the vastness of God come into a person's life. Through his work in radio, Helmut Schlegel has made a habit of using a language without churchy jargon. In 26 short but trenchant stories, he develops an inspiring exploration of the great questions of faith. His book invites readers to discover their own lives as a place for encountering God.
